Onboarding your Mac
Initial Setup
Before you begin, make sure you have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your mobile device.
Once you’ve unboxed your new device, connect it to a power source and turn it on to start the setup process.
- Select your Country/Region (This should be detected automatically after a few seconds)
- You will then be prompted to choose your keyboard layout and language preferences. (Again this should be detected automatically)
- Next you will be asked if there are any accessibility requirements you need to configure to use your device, select these as appropriate or click ‘Not Now’ if these aren’t required.
- Next you will be prompted to connect to your WIFI network, choose the network and enter the password before clicking ‘Continue’
- Once your Mac establishes a connection to your WIFI network you will be presented with the ‘Remote Management’ screen this is where we confirm your Mac is to be managed by Orgvue. Select ‘Enrol’
(Please note this can take up to 5 minutes to download the initial configuration onto your device, a short wait is to be expected at this step…)
- You will then be prompted for a Microsoft login screen where you need to enter your Orgvue email address in firstname.surname@orgvue.com format. Followed by the password provided to you and finally a text message containing a one-time code sent to your mobile device.

- You will then be taken to ‘Create A Computer Account’ where your username will be pre-filled you will just need to enter your password and confirm this. (Important: Please ensure that this password matches your newly created cloud password)
- Next step is to ‘Enable Location Services’ check the box and continue.
- Next is to enable FileVault Disk Encryption (This is a required security feature that encrypts the Hard Drive and its contents and cannot be skipped.) You will need to click Continue here.
- Next you will be asked if you wish to setup TouchID (Fingerprint Biometrics to unlock your device) if this is something you wish to setup click ‘Continue’ where you will be guided through the process of scanning your fingerprint.
- The final step of the setup wizard is to choose your desired appearance if you would like to use the Light/Dark or Auto Theme. (This is personal preference and can be changed later in System Settings)
Registering Your Device
This next section will cover how to enrol your device with Microsoft Company Portal to access resources and download applications.
- Open Finder and navigate to ‘Applications’ you will need to open Company Portal
- Click Sign In
- You will then need to authenticate with your Orgvue email address in firstname.surname@orgvue.com format followed by your password, and this may be subject to a Multifactor Authentication Request being sent to your mobile device

- After logging into Company Portal you will get a pop up in the top right corner of the screen under the menu bar saying ‘Registration Required’ you need to click on the ‘Register’ button
- Again you maybe prompted to sign in with your Orgvue email address in firstname.surname@orgvue.com format followed by your password.
- Finally a dialogue box will appear asking you to enter your password one final time to synchronise your Mac password and domain password so they remain the same.
- Once complete Company Portal will show your device name, that it is in compliance and the device you are currently using.
This completes the setup registration phase and your device is now ready to use. During this registration the standard build will have been downloading in the background such as installing Microsoft Office, Edge, etc… You can begin to login to apps such as Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
MFA SETUP
We pre-configure your MFA for the setup process using your mobile number to receive a text message for authentication. However, moving forward this is not the most efficient way to manage Multifactor Authentication Requests.
Instead, you can set this up to receive a push notification via an App we recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app for the most seamless experience. However, we understand you may prefer an MFA app you are currently using and can enrol there if you wish.
- Firstly, you will need to open your browser ‘Microsoft Edge’ and navigate to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- You will see your Mobile is the only option listed:
- Select ‘Add Sign-In Method’ and select ‘Microsoft Authenticator’ (You will need to select this even if you wish to use another MFA App)
- Ensure you have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your phone. (If you want to use another app select ‘I want to use a different authenticator App’)
- Once you’ve pressed next, you’ll get prompted by the following screens. If you press next until you must scan the QR Code.
- On your phone open the Microsoft Authenticator App and select ‘Work or school account’, from here you can scan the QR code and your authenticator app will have the email address and authentication key with it. (If using another app just scan the QR Code)
- Click Next and you will be sent a test notification to confirm this is setup (If using another app will need to enter the OTP shown in the app)
- From here you’ll be prompted to test the authentication to confirm that it is active. You will need to press next when prompted as the images below demonstrate and you will get notified within the authenticator app on your phone.
Enter the number shown on your Mac and click Yes. You will then get a confirmation setup is complete, you can then close the Edge window you have open on your Mac and all authentication requests will now be sent via Push Notifications to your app.
